Clear the cache

What your site's cache does, what Yclas refreshes on its own, and when clicking Clear cache helps.

To load pages quickly, your marketplace keeps ready-made copies of things it needs on almost every page: your settings, the category and location trees, menus, listing counts and the combined style sheets of your theme. This store of copies is the cache. Most of the time you never notice it. Now and then it means a change takes a while to appear, and that is when you clear it.

Clear the cache

  1. In the admin panel, go to Tools.
  2. In the Cache card, click Clear cache.

The next page anyone opens is built from fresh data. It can be a little slower than usual, once, while the copies are rebuilt. Clearing the cache never deletes listings, users, settings or anything else you made.

What refreshes on its own

You don’t need to clear the cache after every change. Yclas clears the relevant copies when you:

  • save any setting;
  • add, edit, move or delete a category or location;
  • change your theme, theme options, menu or custom CSS;
  • add or edit custom fields.

Anything else in the cache expires on its own within about an hour.

When to clear it

  • A change to the site still doesn’t show after you saved it and reloaded the page.
  • Listing counts next to categories look out of date after a big import or a clean-up.
  • You switched themes and parts of the old look still show up.

If clearing the cache doesn’t help, the copy you’re seeing is probably stored in your own browser, not on the site. See My changes don’t show up for the other places a page can be stuck.

Can I make the cache last longer or shorter?

Not on a hosted Yclas site: the cache is tuned by the Yclas team for all marketplaces, and the Clear cache button is the only control you need.
