Logo, favicon and sharing image
Upload your logo, the browser-tab icon, the phone home-screen icon, the picture shown when your site is shared and the default profile picture.
Five images carry your brand across the site and beyond it. They are all uploaded in the same place, Design › Theme Options, in the General group:
| Image | Where it appears | Recommended size |
|---|---|---|
| Logo | The header of every page. Without one, your site name is shown as text. | 250 × 40 px, PNG |
| Favicon | The browser tab, bookmarks and history. | A square .ico file, 32 × 32 px or 48 × 48 px |
| apple-touch-icon | The icon when someone adds your site to the home screen of a phone or tablet. | 512 × 512 px, square PNG |
| Sharing image | The picture shown when a link to your site is shared on Facebook, X, WhatsApp and similar. | At least 200 × 200 px; 1200 × 630 px looks best |
| Default profile image | The picture of members who haven’t uploaded their own. | A square image |
Upload your logo
- Get your logo ready as a PNG with a transparent background, about 250 × 40 px (or the same shape, larger).
- In the admin panel, go to Design › Theme Options and open General.
- Under Upload your Logo. Recommended size 250px x 40px and file format PNG. Leave blank for none., choose your file.
- Click Save changes.
- Open your site and reload the page to see the new logo.
To go back to showing your site name, click Remove under the logo preview and confirm.
Nova shows the logo at most 40 px tall, so a wide, short logo works best. If your logo is square or tall, it will look small: make a wide version with your name next to the symbol. Upload it at twice the size (500 × 80 px) to keep it sharp on high-resolution screens.
Where the logo links to
Clicking the logo always takes visitors to your site’s main address, the way most websites work. You can’t point it at another page or website. To change what that address opens, for example the list of all listings instead of the home page, choose a different Landing Page in Settings › General. See Your home page.
Upload your favicon
- Go to Design › Theme Options › General.
- Under Upload your favicon. Leave blank for none., choose your icon file.
- Click Save changes.
Browsers keep favicons for a long time. If you still see the old icon, open your site in a private window, or clear your browser’s cache.
The other images
The apple-touch-icon, the sharing image (The image that appears when someone shares your site to Facebook or Twitter) and Upload your default profile image. are uploaded the same way, on the same page.
The panel suggests 57 × 57 px for the apple-touch-icon, but phones show it much larger, and it is also the icon of your site when members add it to their home screen. Upload a square PNG of 512 × 512 px so it stays sharp.
The sharing image is used for your home page and any page without a picture of its own. Pages that have one use it instead: a listing shows its first photo, a category or location page its icon, and a blog post its first image. So each shared listing shows what’s for sale.
After changing the sharing image, social networks may keep showing the old one for a while because they store a copy. Facebook’s Sharing Debugger lets you ask Facebook to fetch it again.
File formats and size limits
- The logo and the other images accept the formats ticked under Allowed Image Formats on the Media page (JPG and PNG unless you changed them), up to the Max. Image Size set there.
- The favicon is best as an .ico file. A PNG is also accepted.
- Pictures wider than 1920 px are scaled down when you upload them.
See Photos for the Media settings.
Logos and themes
Images belong to the theme you upload them in. If you switch theme, upload your logo, favicon and other images again in the new theme’s Theme Options. If you switch back later, the old theme still has them.
Older themes may recommend a different logo size: follow the text next to the upload field on your own Theme Options page.
