Ad-block detector
Show visitors who use an ad blocker a polite message asking them to switch it off, useful if your marketplace earns money from banner ads.
If your marketplace earns money from banner ads, such as Google AdSense, visitors with an ad blocker don’t see them, and you don’t earn from their visits. The ad-block detector notices when a visitor’s browser blocks ads and shows them a message asking them to switch the blocker off for your site.
Turn it on
- Go to Addons and open Adblock detector. The page is called AdBlock detector.
- Click Enable.
To switch it off, open the same page and click Disable.
What visitors see
Visitors with an ad blocker see a dark pop-up on your public pages:
Adblock detected! We noticed that you may have an Ad Blocker turned on. Please be aware that our site is best experienced with Ad Blockers turned off.
They can close it and carry on using your site: the detector asks, it doesn’t block. Visitors without an ad blocker see nothing.
Change the message
The title and text are part of your site’s texts. To reword them, go to Settings › Translations, click
Edit texts, search for Adblock detected and We noticed that you may have, and type your own wording. See
Language and translations.
A friendly, honest message works better than a stern one. For example: Our marketplace is free thanks to a few ads. Please consider allowing ads on this site.
Should you use it?
Use it only if ads are a real part of your income. The message is one more thing between a visitor and the listings, and on a marketplace that makes money from featured listings or memberships, it’s usually better to let everyone browse undisturbed.
Some ad blockers also hide the detector itself, so not every visitor with a blocker sees the message.
