How members post a listing
What your sellers see when they post, edit, renew, sell out or remove a listing, so you can explain it to them and test it yourself.
This is what your sellers see when they post and look after their listings, so you can answer their questions and know what each of your settings changes for them. The labels below are from the Nova theme, the default for new marketplaces; other themes look different but have the same fields and actions.
The quickest way to check your own setup is to open a private browser window and post a test listing.
Post a listing
Members click Post an ad in the site header. The form is split into numbered steps.
- What are you selling? — pick a Category (and subcategory), write a Title (up to 145 characters) and a Description. On a multilingual site the member also picks the Language of the listing.
- Photos — drag in or choose photos. Up to N photos. The first one is the cover.
- Price and details — Price, In Stock (with stock control) and your custom fields. Custom fields change with the category chosen in step 1.
- Where and how to reach you — Location, Address (with a Locate me button and a map when maps are set up), Phone and Website.
- Your details — only for members who aren’t signed in: Name and Email. A new user account will be created.
- A captcha, if you switched it on, and the I agree to the Terms of service box, if you chose a terms page.
- Publish ad.
Which of these fields appear is up to you: see Listing page and form fields and Publishing options.
If a category has a price to post, the form says so as soon as the member picks it (Category … is a paid category), and after publishing they go to the checkout.
What happens after publishing
Depending on your moderation mode, the member sees one of these messages and gets a matching email:
| Moderation mode | Message |
|---|---|
| Post directly | Your listing is posted. Congratulations! |
| Moderation on | Your listing has been received. Your listing will be reviewed within 24 hrs. Thank you. |
| Email confirmation | Your listing has been posted but first you need to activate. Please check your email! |
| Payment modes, paid category | Please pay before we publish your listing. and the checkout opens. |
If you chose a Thank You Page, the member sees that page after posting. See Thank-you page after posting.
My Listings
Signed-in members find their listings under My account › My Listings, newest first. Each listing shows its status, date and price, and these actions:
| Action | What it does | When it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Pay | Opens the checkout for an unpaid paid category. | A payment is pending. |
| Featured | Buy a featured period. | You sell featured listings. |
| Edit | Change the listing and its photos. | Not for sold listings. |
| Stats | Visits and contacts: today, yesterday, last 30 days, total, and a chart for any dates. | Count Visits Listings is on. |
| Go Top! | Pay to move the listing back to the top. | You sell bring to top. |
| Mark as sold | Asks for the Amount (Optional) it sold for and marks the listing as sold. | Not yet sold. |
| Deactivate the listing | Takes it offline without deleting it. | The listing is live or waiting. |
| Activate the listing | Puts a sold or deactivated listing back online. | No moderation mode is in use. |
| Delete | Removes the listing for good. | Delete Listings is on. |
When a member marks a listing as sold, the amount they enter (if any) is recorded as a cash order, which you can see under Orders.
Editing photos
On the edit page, Manage Images lists the listing’s photos. Members can Add image (up to your limit), Delete a photo, or click Make Primary under a photo to use it as the cover in lists and search results.
Renewing a listing
Two days before a listing expires, the member gets a reminder, and when it expires, an email with a link to reactivate it. Reactivating works only when Allow Listing Reactivation is on and you don’t use a moderation mode; the listing then starts a fresh period with today’s date. If you sell bring to top, members can also pay to move a live listing back to the top of the list.
Limits members may hit
- Listings per day limit — You have reached the ad limit of post N ads per day. See Publishing options.
- Membership plans — with subscriptions, members without a plan, or whose plan has no listings left, are sent to the pricing page.
- Black list — members marked as spam can’t post while the Black list add-on is on.
- Your site’s listing limit — when the site reaches the number of listings your Yclas plan allows, members see Posting advertisements is not currently available.
