Sale prices, quantity discounts and bundles
Let sellers put a listing on sale for a while, give discounts for larger quantities with a minimum and maximum per order, and sell several listings together for less.
Shops sell more with a few simple promotions: a summer sale, 10% off when you buy ten, a desk and chair together for less. Three switches let your sellers run them on their own listings:
| Feature | What sellers can do | Needs |
|---|---|---|
| Sale prices | A lower price for a while, with the regular price struck through. | Buy Now |
| Quantity pricing | A minimum and a maximum per order, and discounts for larger quantities. | The shopping cart |
| Bundles | Several of their listings together for less. | The shopping cart |
All three are off until you switch them on, on the Commission on sales page (in Make money, click Manage on the Take a commission on sales card). Quantity pricing and bundles work through the shopping cart, which is part of the Marketplace plan, with the Nova theme and one-payment checkout through Stripe Connect.
If a switch says Set by Yclas support for your site, ask us through Support to change it.
Sale prices
Switch sale prices on
- Open the Commission on sales page.
- With Buy now on, switch on Sale prices.
- Click Save.
How a seller puts a listing on sale
- In My listings, the seller opens the listing’s menu and clicks Sale price.
- They enter the Sale price, which must be lower than the regular price.
- They can choose when it Starts (optional) and Ends (optional). Without dates, the sale starts now and runs until they remove it.
- They click Save.
The page says On sale now or Not running now. Remove the sale puts the listing back to its regular price.
A sale starts at the beginning of its first day and ends at the end of its last day, in your site’s time zone. It starts and stops by itself.
What buyers see
While the sale runs, Nova and the default theme show the regular price struck through next to the sale price, on the listing and in lists, and Nova shows Sale ends … when there’s an end date. Buyers pay the sale price with Buy Now and in the cart, and your commission is worked out on what they pay. The sale price is also what search engines are given. Other themes show the regular price but charge the sale price.
Orders already paid keep their price when a sale starts or ends.
A listing sold in product options can’t have a sale price, because each option has its own price; neither can a listing that takes bookings, which uses booking price rules instead.
Quantity pricing
Quantity pricing suits anything sold by the unit: 10% off from 10 bottles, at least 6 seedlings per order, at most 2 tickets per buyer.
Switch quantity pricing on
- Open the Commission on sales page.
- With Shopping cart on, switch on Quantity pricing.
- Click Save.
How a seller sets it up
In My listings, the seller opens the listing’s ··· menu and clicks Quantity pricing:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Minimum per order | The smallest quantity a buyer can order. 1 by default. |
| Maximum per order | The largest quantity in one order. Empty for no limit (the cart’s own limit still applies). |
| Quantity discounts | Up to 5 discounts, each a From quantity and a Discount (%), for example 5% from 10 and 10% from 25. A larger quantity needs a larger discount, up to 90%. |
The page shows the Price each for every step. A minimum of 1, no maximum and no discounts removes the rules.
What buyers see
The listing shows the rules, such as Buy 10 or more: 5% off and At least 6 per order, with a Quantity box and Add to cart. A listing with quantity pricing is bought through the cart only: Buy Now takes the buyer to the cart.
In the cart, the discount comes off each item (and off each option’s own price) before shipping, and the cart shows the regular price struck through. If the buyer asks for a quantity outside the limits, the cart corrects it and says so. Orders already paid keep their price.
Bundles
A bundle sells two to ten of a seller’s listings together for less: a desk and chair set, a camera with its lens, three books in a series.
Switch bundles on
- Open the Commission on sales page.
- With Shopping cart on, switch on Bundles.
- Click Save.
How a seller makes a bundle
- In their account menu, the seller opens My bundles.
- Under New bundle, they give it a Name, tick the Listings that go in it, and choose a Price for all of them or a Percent off.
- They click Make the bundle.
Only the seller’s own published listings with a price, not sold in options, can go in a bundle. From the same page, a seller can Change a bundle (untick On to pause it) or Delete it.
What buyers see
Each listing in a bundle shows it under the buy button: the listings in it, the regular total struck through, the bundle price and You save …, with an Add bundle to cart button that adds one of each listing.
The discount applies once the whole set is in the cart, once for each full set, and the cart shows it as Bundle discount. If the buyer removes one of the listings, the discount goes. Each listing stays its own order, with its own shipping, stock and refund. Coupons come off on top of the bundle discount.
A bundle with a listing that can’t be bought right now (sold out, no price, or its seller hasn’t set up payouts) is hidden from the listing pages until it can.
How they add up
- A sale price is the starting price in the cart; quantity discounts and bundles come off it.
- Sellers pay for these discounts: your commission is worked out on what the buyer pays.
- For your own discounts paid from your commission, use coupons on sales.
