Theme options
Set your theme's colours, layout, home page texts, banners and listing pages without writing any code.
Theme Options is where you make your theme your own: your logo, an accent colour, what the home page says, where the sidebar goes and how listing pages behave. Every theme has its own set of options, and they are saved per theme, so switching themes and back again keeps them.
This guide covers Nova, the theme new marketplaces start on, in detail, then what is different in Marketplace and the older themes.
Change your theme options
- In the admin panel, go to Design › Theme Options.
- Pick a group in the list on the left, such as Homepage or Color.
- Change the options you want. A bar appears at the bottom: Unsaved changes.
- Click Save changes. You see Theme configuration updated.
- Open your site in another tab and reload it to check the result.
Images (logo, favicon, hero picture…) are uploaded straight from this page. To take one away, click Remove under its preview. See Logo and favicon for sizes and formats.
Discard on the bottom bar throws away what you changed since the last save.
Nova options
Nova’s options are in five groups.
Layout
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Display breadcrumb | Shows the “Home › Category › …” trail at the top of pages. |
| Where you want the sidebar to appear | Left side (default), Right side or None. The sidebar holds your sidebar widgets, or Nova’s filters on listing pages. None removes it everywhere. |
| Disable category counter badge | Yes hides the number of listings on the category tiles of the home page and on subcategory tiles. |
| Hide header and footer on single ad, user profile page and guest checkout page | Yes turns those pages into clean landing pages without your header, menu and footer. Useful when sellers share their listing or profile link as a “shop” page. |
| Numbers of categories to display in top navbar. | How many top-level categories appear in the category bar under the header (6 by default). The bar shows on every page except the home page, which has its own category tiles. Enter 0 to hide the bar. |
General
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Upload your Logo… | Your logo in the header. Without one, Nova shows your site name. |
| Upload your favicon… | The small icon in the browser tab. |
| Upload your apple-touch-icon… | The icon used when someone adds your site to a phone’s home screen. |
| The image that appears when someone shares your site to Facebook or Twitter… | The default picture for links to your site shared on social networks. |
| Upload your default profile image. | The picture shown for members who haven’t uploaded their own. |
| Header banner, allows HTML | HTML shown at the top of every page, under the header. See Banners and ad slots. |
| Footer banner, allows HTML | HTML shown at the top of the footer on every page. |
| Content shift right to left | For Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and other right-to-left languages. See Right-to-left languages. |
| Use Nova’s font, Plus Jakarta Sans… | Yes (default) uses Nova’s own font. No uses each visitor’s system font, which loads a little faster. |
| Facebook link, Twitter link, Instagram link | Full addresses of your social profiles. Each one you fill in adds an icon to the footer. |
Homepage
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Number of ads in the main homepage row (and in the “Just listed” row) | How many listing cards each home page row shows (8 by default). |
| Homepage Only Header, allows HTML | HTML shown on the home page only, just under the search area. Good for an announcement or a banner. |
| Enable categories section. | Shows your top-level categories as tiles, with their icons. |
| Hero Background Image… | A photo behind the big search area at the top of the home page (1920 × 640 px recommended). Without one, Nova uses a plain background. |
| Homepage headline | The big title above the search. Leave it empty to show Find it nearby. Sell it this weekend. |
| Text under the homepage headline | The line under the title. Leave it empty to show Buy and sell with people near you. Free to list, simple to use. |
| Headline of the “How it works” band | Leave it empty to show Buy and sell in three steps. |
| Show a “Just listed” row… | Adds a row of the newest listings when your main row shows featured, popular or random listings. |
| Show the “How it works” band. | A band explaining three steps for sellers and three for buyers. |
| Show the most popular locations. | A section with your busiest locations. |
| How it works - Sellers/Buyers - Step 1–3 title / subtitle | Your own text for each of the six steps. Leave a field empty to keep the built-in text. |
Which listings fill the main home page row is not a theme option: it is Listings on the Home Page in Listings › Settings. See Your home page.
Leave the home page texts empty if your site is multilingual. Empty fields show Nova’s built-in texts, which are translated into each visitor’s language. Text you type here appears as typed, in every language.
Listing
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Infinite scroll | Yes loads more listings automatically as visitors scroll down category and search pages, instead of showing page numbers. |
| Listing random position banner, allows HTML | HTML placed at a random spot among the listings on category and search pages. |
| On category and search pages, show Nova’s filters… | Nova’s own filters (keyword, category, location, price and your searchable custom fields) in the sidebar. They show only when the sidebar has no widgets. |
If you add any widget to the Sidebar area, it replaces Nova’s filters on category pages. The search results page always keeps the filters (above your widgets) unless one of your widgets is a Search widget.
Color
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Accent color for buttons, links and highlights… | Your brand colour, used for buttons, links and highlights across the site. Leave it empty for Nova’s green. |
| Hover color of the accent color… | The colour when the mouse is over a button. Leave it empty and Nova darkens your accent colour for you. |
Buttons have white text, so pick an accent colour that is dark enough for white text to stay readable. Type a
hex code such as #2B59F0, or click the field to use the colour picker.
Marketplace options
Marketplace (formerly Mercury) has most of Nova’s options, plus a few of its own:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Numbers of ads to display in home slider | How many listings the home page shows (21 by default). |
| Display slider in listing | A slider above category pages: None, Default, Featured or Featured Random. |
| Select your own color… | Your own main colour, with Hover color of custom color. |
| Footer Background Image | A picture behind the footer. |
| Primary Hero Action | Whether the home page leads with Buy or Sell. |
| Buy subtitle | The texts for the buy and sell side of the home page. Both fields carry this label: the first is the buy text, the second the sell text. |
Marketplace does not have Nova’s “Just listed” row, popular locations, font choice or listing filters options.
Options in the older themes
The other themes each have their own list, but most share these:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Change the color scheme and style of the theme | Picks one of the theme’s built-in colour schemes. |
| Select the color that styles the mobile browser interface. | The colour of the browser’s address bar on phones. |
| Header tool bar gets fixed in the top / Fix header to top | Keeps the header visible while visitors scroll. |
| Default state for list/grid in listing | Whether category pages open as a list or a grid. |
| Body Font | The font used for text. |
| Display slider in listing and Numbers of ads to display in home slider | The listing sliders on the home page and category pages. |
| Hide page links on footer | Removes the links to your pages from the footer. |
| Infinite scroll, Display breadcrumb, banners, logo and favicon | As in Nova. |
If you can’t find an option for what you want to change, custom CSS can usually do it.
