Listings from a photo
Sellers take a photo on the post page and AI fills in the title, description, category, price and details for them to check before posting.
Writing a good listing takes time, and many sellers give up halfway. With listings from a photo, a seller takes or picks a photo on the post page, and AI writes the listing for them: the title, a description, the category, a price and any of your custom fields it can tell from the picture. The normal post form opens already filled in, with the photo added. The seller checks it, fixes anything that isn’t right, and posts.
Listings from a photo works with the Nova theme, the default for new marketplaces. It’s included at no extra cost.
What sellers see
- The seller clicks Post an ad. At the top of the form is a box: Create a listing from a photo.
- Optionally, they type what’s for sale in the small box (Optional: what’s for sale?). This helps when the photo shows more than the item, for example a sofa in a furnished room.
- They click Choose a photo and take a picture or pick one from their device. Writing your listing from the photo… shows while AI works, usually a few seconds.
- The form opens filled in, with the note Filled in from your photo, and the photo is in the photos box as the cover.
- The seller checks every field, adds more photos if they like, and clicks Publish ad as usual.
If the result isn’t right, Use another photo starts again with a different picture.
Nothing is published until the seller posts. AI only fills in the form. Your usual rules all still apply: moderation, paid categories, posting limits, the captcha and your terms.
What AI fills in
| Field | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Title and Description | Written in your site’s language. |
| Category | Chosen from your own categories, never a new one. |
| Price | An estimate in your site’s currency. Left empty when the item looks free or the price can’t be told. On a marketplace where almost no listings show a price, the price is left empty. |
| Custom fields | Filled in where the photo makes the answer clear, such as a colour, a size or a choice from your list. Fields only admins can edit are never filled in. |
Location, contact details and the remaining photos are left for the seller, as on any listing. If AI can’t tell what the photo shows, the form still opens with the photo added and the message We couldn’t tell what it shows, so please fill in the details below.
AI makes mistakes: it may guess the wrong model or price. That’s why the form asks sellers to check every detail before they post.
Who can use it
Anyone who may post on your site sees the box on the post page. If you only let signed-in members post (for example with Require login to post, membership plans or escrow payments), visitors sign in first, as they would to post at all. The box doesn’t show when only administrators may post, or when your site has reached the number of listings your plan allows.
The box is on the page for a new listing only, not on the edit page.
Switch it on or off
- In the admin panel, go to Settings › General.
- In the Search section, switch Listings from a photo on or off.
- Click Save changes.
It’s on from the start on newer marketplaces that use Nova. On older marketplaces it starts off: switch it on here when you’re ready. The switch only shows while your site uses the Nova theme; see Choose and change your theme.
If the switch is greyed out with Set by Yclas support for your site., our team has set it for you. Contact support if you’d like it changed.
Monthly allowance
| Limit | Amount |
|---|---|
| Per marketplace | 200 listings from a photo a month, counted per calendar month. |
| Per seller | 10 a day, so one seller can’t use up your site’s allowance. |
When a limit is reached, sellers see a short message (Listings from a photo are used up on this site for this month. Please post this one yourself.) and simply fill in the form by hand. Posting keeps working as normal. The monthly allowance starts again on the first day of the next month.
