Marketplace ideas
Yclas isn't only for classified ads. Here's how to set it up as a job board, a business directory, a property site, a rental marketplace and more.
At heart, Yclas lets people publish listings that others can browse, search and respond to. With the right categories, custom fields and settings, that covers far more than classified ads. Here are some proven set-ups, with the features that make each one work.
Job board
Employers post vacancies; candidates browse by sector and city and apply.
| Set up | How |
|---|---|
| Categories | Sectors: Engineering, Hospitality, Healthcare… with subcategories for specialisms. |
| Custom fields | Contract type (drop-down: full-time, part-time, freelance), salary range, remote (checkbox), closing date. |
| Price field | Switch it off if you don’t show salaries as a price. See Listing page and form fields. |
| Expiry | 30–60 days, so old vacancies drop off. See Listing expiry. |
| Earning | Charge employers to post, or sell featured job slots. See Ways to make money. |
| Applications | Candidates use the contact form on the listing; allow file attachments for CVs. |
Business directory
Companies list themselves; visitors search by category and area.
| Set up | How |
|---|---|
| Categories | Business types: Restaurants, Plumbers, Lawyers… |
| Locations | Towns and neighbourhoods. See Locations. |
| Custom fields | Opening hours, website, services offered, year founded. |
| Map | Show businesses on a map. See Maps. |
| Reviews | Let customers rate businesses. See Reviews and ratings. |
| Expiry | Set to 0 so listings never expire, or yearly with a paid renewal. |
| Earning | Membership plans for listed businesses, or featured placement. |

Choosing your idea
The marketplaces that grow are usually narrow: one kind of item, one type of user, one region to start with. You can always widen later. Pick something you know well, where people today buy and sell through scattered Facebook groups, newspapers or word of mouth, and give them a better place to do it.
