Run an equipment and machinery marketplace with the equipment pack
Switch on the equipment pack for machinery fields, key specs, hours and year search, spec sheets, documents, finance, price on request, dealer stock pages, equipment hire and landing pages per make and model.
The equipment pack turns an ordinary classifieds site into a marketplace for machinery: diggers and tractors, forklifts, lab and medical equipment, catering and salon equipment. Equipment listings get a Key specs block, similar equipment, a spec sheet to download and the seller’s own documents. Buyers can search by hours and year, see a finance estimate and ask for a price. Dealers get stock pages, sellers can offer machines for hire, and every make and model gets a landing page that search engines can find.
The pack works on every theme. Nova shows the most; older themes show the main parts (see Older themes).
Switch the pack on
The pack is off on existing sites. It is on for new sites created as an Equipment and machinery marketplace in the sign-up wizard. There are two ways to switch it on:
- With the equipment fields. Go to Listings › Custom Fields and find Equipment and machinery. Choose the Kind of equipment and click Add equipment fields. This adds the standard fields for that kind and switches the pack on.
- With the fields you already have. Go to Settings › General, open Listing types, switch on Equipment pack and click Save changes. Use the same switch to turn it off.
If the switch is greyed out with Set by Yclas support for your site., ask us through Support.
The pack only changes equipment listings: listings with a make, a model or an hour reading filled in. Vehicle listings are left to the vehicles pack. The pack finds your fields by their names, in English, Spanish, German, French, Dutch, Italian and Polish, so fields you created yourself work too. For example Make, Brand, Marca or Hersteller counts as the make, and Operating hours, Horas de uso or Betriebsstunden as the hours. Opening or working hours are never taken for an hour meter.
The equipment fields
Add equipment fields gives every kind Make, Model, Year, Condition (new, used, refurbished, for parts or repair) and Serial number, plus the fields that kind of machine needs:
| Kind of equipment | Its own fields |
|---|---|
| Construction and earthmoving | Hours, Power (hp), Operating weight (kg), Machine type (excavator, wheel loader, bulldozer and more) |
| Farm machinery | Hours, Power (hp), Machine type (tractor, combine harvester, baler and more), Drive |
| Forklifts and material handling | Hours, Machine type, Lift capacity (kg), Lift height (mm), Power source |
| Industrial, lab and medical | Voltage, Last calibration |
| Catering, salon and shop equipment | Voltage, Dimensions |
| Other equipment | Hours, Power (hp), Operating weight (kg) |
It also adds a Price type list (see Price on request, or best offer and VAT). Fields you already have, such as your own make or hours field, are kept and not added twice. None of the fields is required, and they apply to every category: open each one and limit it to your machinery categories. You can click the button again for another kind.
What the pack adds
| Feature | What visitors see |
|---|---|
| Key specs | A block on the listing: make, model, year, hours and the other machinery fields the seller filled in. |
| Similar equipment | Other listings of the same make and model, else the same machine type. |
| Spec sheet and flyer | A PDF spec sheet to download and a printable A4 flyer. |
| Documents | The seller’s brochure, manual, inspection report or service history, as PDFs. |
| Serial checked and Inspection report | Trust badges for expensive machines. |
| Finance | From X / month with a finance calculator, and optional finance and transport links. |
| Price types | Or best offer, Price on request, excl. VAT or incl. VAT, and a currency per listing. |
| Hours and year search | Search by make, model, machine type, year, hours, price and distance. |
| Dealer pages | A dealer’s stock with filters, and a Dealer badge on their listings. |
| Equipment hire | A For hire badge, a price per day and a delivery note. |
| Landing pages | A page per make, model and location, such as /equipment/caterpillar/320. |
| Listings from a photo | The AI recognises the machine and fills in the make, model and machine type. |
Older themes
On themes other than Nova, the Spec sheet, Print flyer and Documents links show above the related listings, with the trust badges, the From X / month estimate and the partner links. The related listings then show similar equipment first. Older themes already list every custom field, so they have no separate Key specs block.
The finance calculator, the Equipment search section for your pages and listings from a photo are Nova only. The price types, the For hire badge and the Dealer badge show on Nova and on themes that use the standard listing pages.
Equipment settings
Once the pack is on, Listings › Settings has an Equipment section. Click Save when you’re done.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Listing documents | Sellers can attach PDF documents to their listings. On until you switch it off. |
| Finance interest rate (%/year) and Finance term (months) | With a term set, equipment listings show From X / month and a finance calculator starting from these values. Leave the term empty to hide it. |
| “Get finance” link | Optional: a finance partner’s page, shown on equipment listings. |
| “Get a transport quote” link | Optional: a transport or haulage partner’s page, shown on equipment listings. |
| Listing currencies | Currency codes sellers can choose for their price, such as EUR, USD, GBP. Empty means no currency field. |
Spec sheet, flyer and documents
Every published equipment listing gets two buttons:
- Spec sheet: a PDF with the title, price, main photo, key specs, the other details, the description, the seller and the listing’s address. On sites in Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese and other languages the PDF can’t print, the button opens the flyer instead.
- Print flyer: an A4 page with a big photo, the price, the key specs and a short description, ready to print or save as PDF.
Sellers can also add their own Documents. On the edit page of their listing, they choose the Kind (brochure, manual, inspection report, service history or other), an optional title and the PDF file, and click Upload. A listing can have up to 5 PDFs of up to 10 MB each. Visitors download them from the listing. Only the seller and you, as administrator, can add or remove them. Switch documents off with Listing documents in the equipment settings.
Trust badges, finance and paying safely
Expensive machines need trust. The pack adds:
- Serial checked. After you’ve checked a listing’s serial number with the seller or the manufacturer, open the listing’s edit page as administrator and, under Serial number check, click Mark serial as checked (with an optional private note). The listing shows Serial checked until the serial number is changed. Only admins see this card.
- Inspection report. A listing with an inspection report among its documents shows an Inspection report badge that opens it.
- Finance. Once you set a Finance term, equipment listings show From X / month, worked out from the price with no down payment. In Nova, visitors open a Finance calculator to change the down payment, interest rate and term. It is an estimate only, not an offer of credit.
- Partner links. Get finance and Get a transport quote link to the partners you set.
- Pay safely. Where Stripe escrow holds payments until the buyer confirms delivery and the listing has Buy now, it says Pay safely: your payment is held until you confirm you have received the item. Stripe escrow is on the Marketplace plan.
Price on request, or best offer and VAT
The Price type field lets the seller say how the price is meant: Fixed price, Or best offer, Price on request, Excl. VAT or Incl. VAT. The listing and its card then say or best offer, excl. VAT or incl. VAT after the price. Price on request hides the price, along with Buy now, the cart and offers, and puts Request a quote first when quote requests are on. Search engines aren’t given a price for those listings either.
To let sellers price in different currencies, fill in Listing currencies in the equipment settings, then click Add equipment fields again to add the Currency field. Prices are not converted: sorting and price search compare the plain numbers.
Search by hours and year
Search results can be filtered by the machine’s hours and year, whatever your fields are called. If your plan includes the AI page builder, add the Equipment search section to your pages. It has a make list taken from your live listings, a model box that suggests that make’s models, the machine type, year from and to, maximum hours, price, location and within X km when your site uses maps.
With saved searches on, the results offer Save this search, and alerts follow the same hours and year filters.
Dealers
A dealer is a seller with an approved business account on a site with the pack on.
- Dealer page. Their profile (or their store, in Nova) says how many machines they have in stock, with filters for make, model, machine type, year, maximum hours and maximum price, and a sort by newest, price, year or hours.
- On their listings. A Dealer badge and a N machines in stock at … link to their page.
- Bulk import and stock feeds. When the dealer maps the columns of a CSV file or feed, your equipment fields are in the list, marked (equipment). Headings that machinery exports and dealer systems use, such as Manufacturer, YOM, Hour meter or Serial number, are matched automatically in the CSV import.
- Leads. With Listing performance for sellers on in Settings › General, the listing’s Performance page sums up its calls, WhatsApp and Telegram clicks, quote requests and messages (Nova).
Business accounts are on the Professional and Marketplace plans.
Equipment hire
Many equipment sites hire machines out as well as selling them. Hire uses bookings, which are on the Professional and Marketplace plans.
- Go to Listings › Custom Fields and find Equipment and machinery.
- Tick Also for hire and choose the categories machines can be hired in.
- Click Add equipment fields. This switches bookings on for those categories and adds the Delivery available and Delivery note fields.
Sellers then make a listing bookable as usual. A bookable equipment listing shows a For hire badge on the listing and its card, its price as from 50 € / day, with the weekly price when the seller sets a weekly discount, and Delivery available with the seller’s delivery note. Delivery is information only: it isn’t charged in the booking.
New sites created as an equipment marketplace are asked Selling, hiring or both? in the sign-up wizard, and get hire categories and bookings set up to match.
Make and model landing pages
People search for things like “used Caterpillar 320 in Texas”. The pack gives your site a page for each:
| Page | Example |
|---|---|
| All makes | /equipment |
| A make | /equipment/caterpillar |
| A model | /equipment/caterpillar/320 |
| With a location | /equipment/caterpillar/texas, /equipment/caterpillar/320/texas |
Each page lists the matching live listings, 24 per page. Pages with 3 or more listings go into your sitemap; pages with fewer are hidden from search engines so they don’t look thin. A page only exists while its make has live listings.
- If you already have a category whose address is
/equipment, that page stays your category. - While the vehicles pack is also on, the
/equipmentpages are off, as both would list the same makes.
Listings from a photo
Where listings from a photo are on, the AI recognises the machine from its decals, badges or maker’s plate and fills in your make, model and machine type fields, and the year only when it can read it on the plate. It never fills in the hours, serial number, condition, weight or price: the seller adds those.
